Leanne Brunelle Performance Horses is a business with the mission of helping people and helping horses be the best team they can be. I offer a variety of services ranging from horse training, to horse and tack sales (my own and on behalf of my clients), to lessons. I work one on one with my clients to customize a training program that is right for them and their horses. I have a gentle approach to horse training based on the philosophies of the original 'masters' of horsemanship, Bill Dorrance and Ray Hunt. It is with these methods I am able to give horses the confident foundation they need to progress quickly through their training.

I have been involved with the horse industry since I was a child. My grandfather Ken Barr has been a trainer, owner and/or breeder of Thoroughbred race horses for 75 years and I grew up around him and his horses. I started riding about 23 years ago, and have been training professionally for over 10. I got my start in the training world riding Arabians for a large breeder. I got to work on many colts and client horses, as well as learn from the finished show horses. From there I went to Olds College to take their comprehensive Equine Science Program, and got my diploma in Western Horsemanship. After college I was presented with an amazing opportunity to go work in Europe training horses. I was the head trainer in the largest western sale barn in most of Europe. I was responsible for having the 70 horses in the barn ready for show or sale. I got to show extensively over there as well and had a great degree of success in Western Pleasure, Trail, and Reining.

I have now been back in Saskatoon since 2004 and have been training outside horses since my return. I have really enjoyed meeting and working with my new clients from all over Canada and the U.S. these past 5 years and look forward to working with many more in the years to come. I am currently training out of Willow Ridge Stables in Saskatoon; I am primarily working with colts and horses that are being geared towards showing in western pleasure, reining and ranch events.  Please feel free to call me with any questions you may have or to set up a program for you and/or your horse.  I also do horse and tack consignments, please contact me for more information.

  "Just a Horse"

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a horse," or,"that's a lot of money for just a horse". They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a horse."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a horse." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a horse," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a horse," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a horse" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a horse," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a horse" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a horse" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a horse" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman/man."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a horse" just smile, because they "just" don't understand.
